Cephalosporium Stripe of Cereals

چکیده

Cephalosporium stripe (fungus str ipe) is a vascular wi l ttype disease of wheat and barley, which also affects other cereals and grasses. l t is caused by the soifborne fungus Cephalosporium gramineum. ln autumn, the fungus produces millions of bacteria-sized spores (conidia), which are washed into the soil around the plant. These spores are the structures that will eventually infect the plant. Infection of the plant occurs through wounds in roots durjng the winter and early spring. Frozen soil in winter and frost heaving of soil in the spring cause the most serious wounds for infection. Once inside the plant, the fungus colonizes the xylem (water-cond ucting tissue) and slowly kills the plant. After the fungus has killed the plant, it survives inside the straw in the soil until the next crop. This fungus survives only in straw whlch it colonized while the plant was alive; the fungus does not colonize straw while it is decaying in the soil.

Perennial Wheat Germ Plasm Lines Resistant to Eyespot, Cephalosporium Stripe, and Wheat Streak Mosaic

The Palouse Prairie of eastern Washington was identified in the 1997 USDA National Resources Inventory as one of the most highly erodible areas in the United States. It is estimated that 10% of the original topsoil in eastern Washington has been lost since cultivation began in the region in the late 1800s (32). Furthermore, runoff from agricultural land reduces water quality in streams and rive...

Reactions of Perennial Grain Accessions to Four Major Cereal Pathogens of the Great Plains

Problems associated with annual grain agriculture, such as soil erosion and water and air pollution, indicate that reliance on annual grain production is a fundamental problem of current agricultural practice (23). Annual plant roots are less efficient micromanagers of water, soil, and soil nutrients than their perennial counterparts, resulting in nutrient and pesticide contamination of water s...

Fine Mapping of the Bsr1 Barley Stripe Mosaic Virus Resistance Gene in the Model Grass Brachypodium distachyon

The ND18 strain of Barley stripe mosaic virus (BSMV) infects several lines of Brachypodium distachyon, a recently developed model system for genomics research in cereals. Among the inbred lines tested, Bd3-1 is highly resistant at 20 to 25 °C, whereas Bd21 is susceptible and infection results in an intense mosaic phenotype accompanied by high levels of replicating virus. We generated an F(6:7) ...

Notes Microbial Transformation of Griseofulvin by Cephalosporium C Ur Tipes

Wehave studied the microbial transformation of griseofulvin (I) by Cephalosporium curtipes and the formation of two more polar metabolites was observed in a proportion of 10:1. The compounds have been identified as (+)-5'-hydroxygriseofulvin (axial) (II) and G'-hydroxymethylgriseofulvin (III) (Fig. 1). The microbial transformation of griseofulvin was performed by a 48-hour-old culture of Cephal...

Genome-Wide Linkage Mapping of QTL for Adult-Plant Resistance to Stripe Rust in a Chinese Wheat Population Linmai 2 × Zhong 892

Stripe rust is one of the most devastating diseases of wheat (Triticum aestivum) worldwide. Adult-plant resistance (APR) is an efficient approach to provide long-term protection of wheat from the disease. The Chinese winter wheat cultivar Zhong 892 has a moderate level of APR to stripe rust in the field. To determine the inheritance of the APR resistance in this cultivar, 273 F6 recombinant inb...
